P5 trip in Oberstdorf

On Monday, 11 March 2024, 108 pupils, 6 class teachers, 11 monitors, 1 nurse and a coordinator of the EELux2 P5 trip travelled to Oberstdorf in the Allgäu region in a total of three buses. A distance of just over 500 kilometres lay between Luxembourg and Oberstdorf. Thanks to two 45-minute breaks, the journey didn't seem that long. Shortly before 3 pm, we arrived at the hostel in Oberstdorf/Tiefenbach.

After unloading our suitcases, Lukas, one of the receptionists, gave us a briefing with rules, e.g. on meal times, behaviour in the rooms, the canteen and various rooms such as the cinema room, the table football room or the room with a table tennis table. We were then given bedding and made up our beds, which one of us did a little better than the other 😉

After a delicious dinner, we went on a hike with torches, where several city guides told us regional legends, which we listened to with interest. Back at the hostel, two campfires were burning and we drank punch. Exhausted, we all fell into bed and were curious to see what the next few days had in store for us.

The next morning, we had a hearty breakfast and prepared a snack, which we ate for lunch. At 8.30am, all three groups set off one after the other for their first day of discovery. The following activities were organised up to and including Thursday:

  • Trip to Füssen with a hike to Neuschwanstein Castle and the panoramic view from the Marien bridge
  • 2 rides on the "Allgäu Coaster" toboggan run in Oberstdorf, which is open all year round
  • Snowshoe hike with orienteering games and a treasure hunt using a GPS device and avalanche sticks on the Riedberg Pass
  • Visit and guided tour of the famous ski jumping stadium in Oberstdorf, one of the venues for the Four Hills Tournament
  • Ride on the Nebelhorn cable car to the 2224 m high summit of the Nebelhorn in Oberstdorf
  • A half-day programme in the NTC Snowpark at the middle station of the Nebelhorn with fun vehicles

On Thursday evening, the monitors who accompanied our classes organised a spontaneous little farewell party for the students at the hostel. The last suitcases were quickly packed and on Friday morning it was already time to start the return journey.

The week flew by. The activities were varied and a lot of fun. We'd love to go again next school year 😊
